Seven Days in Dubrovnik

 Dubrovnik: South Dalmatia, Croatia

Located on the southern coast of Croatia, facing the Adriatic Sea, this beautiful area is famous for its walled city. It is a great place  for a relaxing seaside city break.

DAY 1 - OLD TOWN, CITY WALLS

Dubrovnik is famous for its old town which is a walled city with many historical sights. Walking tours of the city are available if you want to see the highlights however, if you have a few days to spend here, I recommend exploring on your own, at your own pace. For any Game of Thrones fans, you can take walking tours to see some of the sites featured in the series.

I also recommend taking a walk along the city walls which will give you amazing views of Dubrovnik and surrounding areas.

DAY 2 - MOUNT SRD

Leaving from the old town, you can take a short cable car ride up to Mount Srd for some of the best views over the old town and Elafiti Islands: there is also a restaurant at the top. For anyone who isn't comfortable with the cable car then there are options to drive or hike to the summit.

DAY 3 - LAPAD BAY

This is a great walk in Dubrovnik which takes about forty five minutes from the old town. This is a great way to take in more of the city's stunning views. During your walk to Lapad Bay, I recommend stopping at Cave Bar More where you can have drinks inside the cave or overlooking the water.

DAY 4 - LOKRUM

You can take a short ferry journey to Lokrum from the old town port (you can also get tickets here). There is a lot to see on this island including Benedictine Ruins and a small salt lake. It is also home to wild peacocks and rabbits which roam the island freely. For any Game of Thrones fans, here you can see replicas from the show.

SIDE NOTES

During my time in Dubrovnik I stayed at Hotel Valamar Lacroma which is in a great area for quick bus connections into the old town. It also has beautiful walks down to the private beaches or further out along to Lapad Bay. Although I spent a week here, you could easily see the highlights in four days. I found Visit Croatia to be a great resource when planning my trip.

Seven Days in Sorrento

Sorrento: Gulf of Naples  This is a beautiful place to base yourself when exploring some of the most popular sites in Italy’s Campania region. With great connections to surrounding islands, towns and cities, this destination is perfect for any traveller. DAY 1 - POMPEII   I recommend hiring a tour guide as the site covers several miles and can take days to see. A two hour guided tour ensures you visit all the key spots and means you have plenty of time to explore more of Pompeii at your own pace. I recommend spending a full day here. DAY 2 - HERCULANEUM AND VESUVIUS            The site of Herculaneum is smaller than that of Pompeii so is easier to navigate on your own especially with the detailed map provided with your entry ticket. I opted not to use a tour guide in Herculaneum but instead used my knowledge of Pompeii to explore the city, which can be done in half a day.   After seeing the destruction caused by Mount Vesuvius I recommend climbing the still active volcano which is

Three Days in Rome

Rome: Capital of Italy Home to stunning architecture, the former Roman Empire and the smallest country in the world, Rome has a lot to offer. This city is filled with so much culture that it can be hard to take it all in: three days allows you to see the highlights. DAY 1 - SPANISH STEPS, TREVI FOUNTAIN, PANTHEON, ALTER OF THE FATHERLAND, COLOSSEUM                           As one of the most famous sights in Rome, the Spanish Steps are a must see for any traveller.                      The Trevi Fountain is a must see and considered the most famous fountain in Rome. I recommend getting here early or late in the day in order to avoid the crowds. This is one of many fountains in the city so be sure to look out for others such as the Fountain of Four Rivers.                                 Located just a short walk from Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon is famous for its architecture: with no windows, an oculus called the Eye of the Pantheon is the only light source.                         T
